Denny's server here. Quick tip on ordering eggs at Denny's in America:
  • sunny side up: only the bottom of the eggs are cooked, oftentimes leaving raw egg white on top, yolk is definitely raw.
  • over easy: cooked one minute on the bottom, flip and one minute on the other side. The whites are runny and the egg itself will "jiggle" if you gently shake the plate they're on.
  • over medium: egg whites are all the way cooked, and the yolk is still raw, perfect for dipping toast into.
  • over medium well: egg whites are cooked through and the yolk has about a dime sized uncooked part in its center.
  • over well: the entire egg is cooked all the way through, yolk is not broken.
  • over hard: the egg yolks are broken as soon as the egg is in the pan, the entire egg is cooked through, with swirls of cooked yolk in the whites.
  • scrambled: eggs are mixed in a bowl or in the pan as they cook, cooked all the way through, no brown overcooking spots.
  • soft scrambled: eggs are not cooked all the way, kind of like an over easy scramble.
  • scrambled well: eggs are cooked thoroughly and often have brown cooking spots on them from the pan.
There are also poached, poached easy, poached hard, basted, basted easy and hard. These are cooked in hot water.
